Tonight’s episode of Life of Kylie gave the viewers a glimpse of what it’s like for Kylie to be the CEO of her own company.
Now, I’m sure that there are dozens of problems that Kylie has to deal with on a daily basis, but tonight’s episode focused on two specific things: setting boundaries with her employees/friends and dealing with people who sell counterfeit merchandise from her makeup line, Kylie Cosmetics.
Let’s start with the first one.
If you read my review on the premiere episode, then you’ll already know that a couple of Kylie’s employees are some of her closest friends. With that being said, you can probably assume that, with that dynamic, it would only be a matter of time before the line between friends and boss blurs.
Tonight, we saw Kylie (and her team) deal with a little drama from her hair stylist, Tokyo, and her makeup artist, Ariel.
Tokyo is managed by his boyfriend, Chris, who, for some reason, felt the need to accompany his boyfriend to work everyday. Now, when Kris Jenner, Kylie’s mom, noticed that, she immediately pointed it out to her daughter because, according to her, Chris doesn’t need to come to work with Tokyo everyday. He doesn’t help Tokyo do the work, so why come if you aren’t needed? What’s the point of coming if all you’re gonna do is sit around? It makes it seem like the only reason he’s there is because he wants to be around Kylie and their squad.
Kylie wasn’t really bothered by it, but I think after she sat down and thought about it, she decided that Kris was right. She ended up making it a rule that the only people who needed to be present during work hours were the people that would actually be doing some work.
This got back to Chris and Tokyo and after talking to Kylie’s assistant about it, Tokyo agreed and moved on.
Now, Ariel was on another level. To be honest, he reminds me of someone who knows that their work is good, so they sort of push the boundaries because they feel like they’re irreplaceable. With that being said, he was doing too much and I feel like if Kylie wasn’t such a huge fan of his work, she definitely would’ve fired him.
There was a scene where Kylie was at a Keeping Up with the Kardashians event and instead of him sticking by Kylie side to make sure that her makeup was on point, he was seen dancing and partying with the other Kardashian sisters. It got to the point to where Kylie had to touch up her own makeup because she got tired of waiting on him and he had the nerve to get upset at her for taking matters into her own hands.
That is unacceptable to me! I don’t know if that’s production editing the footage to make him look bad or what, but his behavior is a definite no-no. Kris also mentioned that, at one point, he even started to refuse to fly coach. I gagged because that’s ridiculous!
I don’t know how Kylie handled that (she probably gave him what he wanted), but I agree with Kris. Kylie needs to check him. She’s his boss and he needs to respect that. They’re friends and all, but, at the end of the day, she signs his paychecks.
Anyway, there was no solution to Ariel’s situation. Kylie just commented on how amazing his work is and the episode ended.
Now for the counterfeit merchandise situation.
This will be short because there was really nothing Kylie could do about it. She was made aware of other people making fake websites to sell fake Kylie Cosmetics products on and, according to Kylie, the customers who were buying from these people were having terrible reactions to the products because the ingredients were unsafe.
She and Jordyn were able to find a location in downtown LA that sold the counterfeit products, so they decided to drive down there to check it out.
Kris freaked when she found out that they were going down there (which I can understand), but, after a little bit of drama, Jordyn was able to buy a couple of the products.
It’s crazy because Jordyn left $20 on the woman’s stand (since she refused to sell her any of the products with so many cameras present) and picked up quite a few things. That kind of threw me because Kylie’s products aren’t cheap, so there’s no way that that $20 would’ve gotten Jordyn all that stuff. Either they’re selling those products for dirt cheap or that woman was afraid to stop her because she didn’t want to get caught on camera. I’m leaning more towards the latter.
Anyway, like I said earlier, Kylie couldn’t do anything. They looked at the products and Kris told Kylie to sit tight and let her lawyers handle it.
Overall, the episode was cute and I’ll tune in to watch next week’s. Will you?
